Suffering from Ingrown Toenails?
An ingrown toenail is caused due to the pressure of the nail edge into the skin of the toe. After the nail breaks through the skin, inflammation starts. The infection can result in severe pain. Ingrown toenails most commonly affect the large toes and can become a reoccurring problem.
What can I do about it?
Several medical treatments have been developed to eliminate chronic ingrown toenails. Some procedures are invasive and require stitches and local anesthetic. Less invasive procedures reduce post-operative pain. Partial nail excision can reduce the risk of recurrence caused by a regrowth of the nail.
Nail surgery is usually very safe, with minimal post-operative pain. The procedure can be conveniently and safely performed in our clinic. In this procedure, the doctor removes the outside edge of the nail, along with the nail root. The doctor then treats the area where the nail root is located with a chemical to prevent nail growth.
The surgery is done under a local anesthetic, with no discomfort during or after the procedure. After the procedure, you will go home with the toe bandaged and post treatment instructions (pain killers, elevation of the foot, rest, etc.). Our podiatrist will see you within a several days post treatment to make sure the toe is healing properly.
